Notes,

What the price of a website depends on

I have no price list, but I do have an honest answer: what the amount depends on, when you pay and what comes after.

The question comes up in every first conversation, usually as the second sentence. And the answer “it depends” is correct, but unsatisfying. So here is what it really depends on with me.

Three things determine the amount. First, how many pages and languages there will be: one page in German is something different from twelve pages in German and French. Second, whether a shop or stock comes with it, meaning products, stock levels, prices per country. Third, how much of the texts and photos I take on. If you talk and I write, that is work, and it is in the quote.

What is not in the amount: subscriptions with third parties. No bought template, no extensions with a monthly fee, no licence for a second language, no cut of sales in the shop. You pay once for the build and after that once a year for hosting on my server, which you can cancel at any time. Domain and email belong to you and run in your name.

You pay when the work is done. I do not need a deposit. When the site is finished and only your go-ahead is missing, you pay half or all of it at once, the rest is due when the site goes live.

And after that? A new page in the existing layout or a small change costs nothing extra, that is included in running the site. A new feature, say a shop or a members' area, gets a quote, beforehand, not afterwards. I work out the range for your project in the first conversation. You have the quote the same day or the next, one number, not ten.
